AUGUST INSPIRATION:- BUTTONS

So here is our last inspirational day for you.  What a finale..I LOVE BUTTONS!!!!!  They are so versatile.  I am sure you all have them hanging around the house. I find them on all sorts of things.  If the family have clothing that is worn out, i cut the buttons off and add them to my stash, you never know when you might need them. They are also cheap and make a great easy embellishment..

This layout i have used HEIDI GRACE VINEYARD RANGE.  It is an oldie but a goody...you may still be able to find some at your local Big W.

If you have nice , flat buttons without holes you can add rubbons to the top. I have done this with the button with small hearts on it.

I have also added lengths of ribbon and fastened it behind to make it look like a flower, then tiny gemstone were added to the centres..

Instead of using the brads you get with the CLOUD 9 Vellum flowers i used a button and again covered the holes with gem stones..

The easiest way to glue your buttons on is with two sided glue dots or if you have embellishment glue that will also work but can be a little bit messy...

Of course buttons are great is accessorize with your cards. they are quick and easy to finish them off.  You can also add a little bit of embroidery thread through the centre to finish them off, with mine i have left them blank...

I have cut out the purple flowers freehand using the ULTRA SHAPE EXPRESS.

August Inspiration - Buttons

Go raid your grandmothers button tin, or your mothers one, or maybe you've even got a tin yourself sitting there for use in mending things?

Add some of them to your LO.

Easy to apply, and change - try some rubons across the top of one, or add fabric to change to the colour you require.

So many options. Teeny tiny, big and bold. Grab some buttons and make them part of your LO today.

Saturday Sketch Day

Well I'm a bit late for this today, but its been a big day in the McClune household. My husband returned home from a business trip. My son had his 'end of season' rugby get together and I'm still sick. LOL.

So without further ado, here is this weeks sketch.

August Inspirations:Inspired by a magazine ad..

Hey girls!
Ngaire here.. with my challenge layout.
I choose to be "inspired by a magazine ad".
and this is the ad that caught my eye.

and so.. using papers from the Cloud 9 Max's backyard range.. and also papers from the Kimberley Poloson range of double sided cardstocks.. plus some orange foil trimmed alphas by Cloud 9, and some sparkle diecuts (Max's Backyard.)
I created this layout.. showing off my beloved jasmine flowers , that just make me smile each and every winter.

I added some more sparkle with Opal dust by Jo Sonja, and some dimensional magic too.
I also popped some double sided foam tape under the butterflies wings to create a 3d look.
A Clear epoxy quote sticker ( Cloud 9) added a cool touch.

I love the way the butterfly looks like it just landed on the layout.:)

Mrs Grossman's stickers....Pen and Ink

Hi everyone,

Here are some gorgeous cards that one of our NSW Demonstrators did for me for the recent Sydney Stitches and Craft Show......aren't they just the most adorable cards?

August Inspiration - Use an ad in a magazine to inspire your next project

Everywhere I look lately I see something 'scrappy' - you know what I mean...flourishes on tv commercials, designs on crockery and bed linen, etc.  I remember watching 'Dancing With The Stars' once and I swear that the coloured light pattern on the dancefloor was EXACTLY the same as a piece of patterned paper that I have in my stash !!  So anyway...I was flicking through a scrapbook magazine the other day and came across this advertisement :

As soon as I saw it I wanted to replicate it...so I did :

The photo is of my husband's grandparents and I just love it.  While I could have scrapped it with a heritage theme (and probably still will), I love that the quirkiness of this layout refects the carefree, fun atmosphere of the photo.

I inked the edges of the cardstock (a bit hard to see in this pic, sorry) and then dry embossed the dots to reflect the dots on the paper in the advertisement.  Because the cardstock I used has a different coloured core I was able to sand it to reveal the lighter colour where it had been embossed.

All of the papers are scraps leftover from other projects.  The flowers along the bottom of the photo and scattered around the page were also made from scraps, which I either punched or cut by hand.  The round pins and heart pin are by Heidi Grace.

August Inspiration - Magazine Adverts

Magazine adverts are incredibly full of inspiration. You might see a colour combo that has been used that you'd like to try. There might be a design style you think looks incredible. There might be a theme (summer/winter/Xmas/party) that you can gain some inspiration from.

So next time you're flicking through a mag, keep an eye on the ads and see what draws you in. Then take it further and put it into your page.

And while you're there, put your feet up with a nice cup of tea and enjoy the rest of the mag. LOL.

It's My Party

Well, it isn't really...but that IS the name of this GORGEOUS new range by Heidi Grace !

When this page kit arrived on my doorstep I was immediately keen to get creating with it.  The colours are so bright and cheerful !  Anyway...these are the results; I've made an invitation, table decoration and thank-you gift.

I used the Threading Water punch for the white detail on the front of the card, as well as one of the chipboard titles from the kit (it's a bit hard to read in the pic but says 'party'), a button and a handmade paper string flower.  On the inside I have printed the invitation details on white cardstock, matted it with pink cardstock, and then attached to the card.

The table decoration is a polystyrene foam cup wrapped in patterned paper.  I've used one of the word stickers and a chipboard bookplate from the kit on the front too.  Die cut flowers adorned with buttons, Zings, Rain Dot Eyelets and doodling have been attached to bamboo skewers and set into sand.  Strips of curled paper, a metal butterfly and a layer of shredded cellophane finish it off.

And finally, there is the thank-you gift.  A handmade sour cream container filled with sweets.  I've decorated it with a diecut flower, a word sticker and ribbon (both from the kit) to carry over the theme of the paper.
