snow hoop
Designer: Lisa Storms
I love the look of using embroidery hoops in home decor. It dawned on me that instead of working on the front of the hoop in the traditional way, I could build a scene from behind and take advantage of the frame to hang elements with the help of Fiskars' Precision Push Drill. This would make a beautiful photo gift this holiday season, or make some for your own home ... they are quite addictive and can be suited for any season or theme!

Instructions (Print version)

1. With the embroidery hoop fully together and tightened, trace the inside of the hoop onto white cardstock, and the outside of the hoop onto chipboard. Cut out both.
2. Paint entire embroidery hoop black and set aside to fully dry.
3. Build your page onto the chipboard circle you cut out with photos, patterned paper, border punched cardstock, and chipboard letters. Keep in mind there is a small margin that will disappear behind the hoop at completion.
4. Punch 10 snowflakes from white cardstock and glue together with a piece of white thread nestled in between. Allow to dry.
5. Using white circle cut at beginning, cut three pieces out and rip with tear edger to form layers of snow. Adhere tallest layer at bottom right of page, but set other two aside until after hoop is adhered.
6. Once hoop and flakes are dry, lay on top of completed page and decide where snowflakes should fall. Mark drill points with a pencil on inner hoop.
7. Drill holes with precision drill on inner hoop only, being sure to work on a protected surface. Fill in holes with fine tip black marker so they "disappear".
8. Feed all snowflake threads into holes and once at desired heights, tape off on top of inner hoop. Add outer loop back after all are attached to cover up tape.
9. Using Easy Squeeze Glue Gun, line back of hoop with a line of glue and adhere centered on top of completed page, being sure all snowflakes are inside front of frame.
10. Add previously torn snow layers to bottom corner with foam adhesive under each layer.
11. Once glue is fully dry, go back with a craft knife and trim off any bottom layer showing. Paint sides and back of bottom layer for a professional finish.
