I've learnt so much

Hi everyone, Just popping in to say how much I have been enjoying my on-line Photography Course the past 7 weeks.....I have one week to go.....I have learnt so much more about my SLR Nikon D40 Camera.....and have enjoyed taking more pics of Sam(grandson) using Manual Mode.

I even managed to get the Catch Lights in Sam's eyes in the pic above....

Manual Mode allows me to have more creative control over my pics.............and I love that!!

I am so glad I decided to learn how to use my camera OFF Auto Mode....it's been a HUGE learning Curve for me......but a great Journey!!! Can't wait to try out my NEW Camera Skills when we head overseas in July/August!!!

This has been my challenge for 2011.....to improve my Photography Skills.....do you have something that you would like to challenge yourself to learn for this year? Leave a comment below here telling us all......maybe it's to learn to sew,knit,crochet,make cards,embroidery,journaling,etc,etc.

Balloons into eggs?

Hi everyone... those who know me - know that I usually use my tools diferently than they are designed for. Oh I still punch paper/cardstock but I look at the shapes wondering if I can alter them somehow.

I have used the Fiskars Balloon Leaver punch for this card. I positioned the punch to get rid of the balloon tie on the punch and ended up with egg shapes - Perfect for the below card.

I also used the following Fiskars tools:

• Basket weave texture plate and texturing tool
• Fiskateer scissors
• Leaves boarder punch
• Trimmer
• Glue canister refil for the 6 in 1 tool.
• finger tip craft knife
• 12x12 cutting mat

Another thing to note here is I used an old Fiskars ink pad - chestnut brown to ink up the texture on the basket and also used the Fiskars packaging for the Leaf it to me squeeze punch. (fence, grassy, flower background)

The bees were from a Peter Rabbit clear stamp set I've reciently bought.

Squeeze Punch Dimensional Flowers

Difficulty rating: Beginner

Designer: Patti Milazzo

One of the things I love about Fiskars Squeeze Punches is how you can create flowers from the variety of shapes available. These cards were embellished with flowers made from heart and star shaped Squeeze Punches. I simply layered multiple pieces of the different sizes to create the blooms.

Instructions (Happy Birthday Card):

1. Create a 5 inch by 7 inch card.
2. Cut a large squares and strips of patterned paper. Use the Twist & Flip Scallop Corner Punch for the top of the square. Use the Apron Border Punch for the bottom strip. Adhere pieces to page and add machine stitching, if desired.
3. Squeeze Punch 6 of each size of the Funky Love Squeeze Punch; ink and curve tops of hearts by hand.
4. Squeeze Punch a circle to use as the base to attach the petals.

5. Start with the largest hearts in groups of three and adhere as shown. Continue layering hearts until the flower is complete.

   
6. Add a button embellished with beads and glitter to the center of the flower.
7. Adhere flower to left side of card just above the floral strip.
8. Squeeze Punch Mint Condition Leaves, apply adhesive and tuck under the flower.
9. Print sentiment on cardstock and tuck under flower. Use Adhesive Foam to give it lift.

Instructions (You’re In My Thoughts Card):

1. Squeeze Punch 3 of each size star (9 stars for each of the larger flowers). Make enough for 2 larger flowers. For the 3rd flower, use only the Large and Medium stars ñ 6 pieces. Then ink edges of all the pieces.
2. Lay out all of the stars on the Craft Mat and lightly mist with water.
3. Gently crumple all the shapes, then unfold leaving the pieces slightly rumpled. Let dry thoroughly.
4. While youíre waiting, create a 4.5 inch by 7 inch card.
5. Cut 2 piece of patterned paper to fit inside the space of the card front. One should be just 2 inches wide and the other 4.5 inches.

6. Machine stitch between the two.

   

7. Once the pieces are dry, stack them (turning each star) and adhere together.

   
8. Add a button to the center of each flower and adhere them to the card as shown.
9. Cut a journal shape from the template, machine stitch around and adhere to bottom right of card.
10. Print sentiment on cardstock and trim into small strips. Adhere to journal shape.
