........... that 2012 is the NATIONAL YEAR of READING?
Did you know that................
Nearly half the population struggles without the literacy skills to meet the most basic demands of everyday life and work. There are 46% of Australians who can't read newspapers; follow a recipe; make sense of timetables, or understand the instructions on a medicine bottle.
Australian libraries and library associations are behind a campaign to turn 2012 into the National Year of Reading, linking together all the great things that are already happening around books, reading and literacy, and giving them an extra boost, with inspirational programs and events taking place across the country.
Libraries will be partnering with government, the media, writers, schools, publishers, booksellers, employers, child care providers, health professionals and a whole host of other organisations that share our passion for reading.

I'd like to challenge all of our readers to HAVE - A - GO at crafting something fun and meaningful over the next few months for a family member or friend.......to help them to read!
I have already started a fun Mini Album for SAM (my grandson)....who is turning 3 in September.
I created this from some scraps of cardstock that I had left over from my Make'n'takes for the Royal Melbourne Show......and I was inspired by the book mark from the local Library in Paynesville.
I just joined 3 strips of 3 and a half inch by 12 inch strips together and then folded them.....
So my challenge to you all is to look around you for INSPIRATION......thinking caps on....what can you create to help someone read this year......maybe use material and make a cloth book...try some chipboard books....or maybe make some Mini Albums using family pics......so many wonderful ways that we can all use our crafty skills to help others to read.......
I'm going to add some NUMBERS 1-5 inside on the lefthand side pages....and pictures on the righthand side pages................................so that's my next task.....I'll share with you all in a few days...
Off to find my FISKARS tools to help with this...so what tools do you suggest I should use ?
xoxo
