Hello there everyone...... It's me Tara! Firstly, I hope you liked my sneak peeks several days ago...Were you intrigued?
Well today i am going to share with you just how FABULOUS the Fiskars Shape Express and templates are!
Not everyone is aware of this but the Fisakars Shape express is GREAT on fabric....YES!!! FABRIC. If you follow a few tips i will share today you will no longer keep those shape templates in the cupboard for just paper and card but use them with your sewing too.
I have made some cute baby bodysuits using the Shape Express and Templates.
To start you off, i always suggest you pop a new blade in your shape express cutter. This ensures a clean cut when using fabric, and in my experience the shape express will just glide through the fabric with a new blade. You can get the blades at your local Spotlight store or www.abiscraft.com.au
The next tip is ALWAYS use a FISKARS mat. Those cheap green self healing ones just do not work. so grab a Fiskars mat. Again you can get them from Spotlight and Abiscraft.
Lastly, Iron your fabric, then iron on vliesofix to the back of your fabric to stiffen it up. If you cannot get Vlieofix, i have even used iron on interfacing to stiffen up the fabric. It is not as good as Vlieofix but will work.
Ok , now you know a few little secrets, here we go........
With your vlieofix ironed on to your fabric, place the fabric on your Fiskars mat and using your shape express cutter, cut your shape. Do what you would do if your were cutting paper or card. ( Run your cutter downward on your empty mat first to line up your blade, start cutting on a straight, not a corner and press firmly and cut moving the cutter not your hand)
Once you have cut the shapes you want, peel off the paper from the back of your ironed on vlieofix and then iron on your cut out shape to your baby bodysuit.
Then hand stitch around the shape on your body suit, or if you are lazy like me, pull out your sewing machine and sew around it using a blanket stitch.
It Is as simple at that! You can cut almost anything with the shape express cutter. I even cut really small designs like the bird on the woodland template and the butterfly on the butterfly template.
Here is the Cupcake design.

Here is the bird from the woodland template.

Here is the many different designs you can create!

And Finally, here is my daughter Poppy modelling one of the body suits for us all!

So i hope you all give it a go! Even if you just Jazz up your calico bags, The Shape express and templates are WAY under rated and are worth a go with fabric!
Tara :)
