Anyone for Scallops?
Scallops are definitely one of the hottest looks in scrapbooking at the moment and there are so many different ways you can incorporate them into your paper crafting. Of course you can buy ready made scallop edged cardstock and papers, but where’s the fun in that when you can create your own. So let’s have a look at a few of the different ways you can create your scalloped edges.
Ultra ShapeXpress – if you’re lucky enough to have one of these fantastic little gadgets, you can create scallops in a flash with the outer borders of the ovals and circles templates. Alternatively you can cut out circle and heart shapes and position them along your edge to create a similar effect – check out my little tutorial from a few weeks back.
Decorative Scissors – these little beauties are perfect for any big or small project. Try using the scissors along the outer edge of a card or make your own scalloped photo corners by straight cutting a square and using your decorative scissors to cut along the diagonal. You can even create your own funky page tabs to co-ordinate your project beautifully. Take a look at the "Clouds" "Scallop" and "Mini Scallop" decorative scissors - they are perfect for the job at hand.
Squeeze Punches – Punch out a number of hearts or circles and position them around the outer edges of your cardstock or shape. In my “Treasured Friends” title page, I’ve used the medium circle squeeze punch to create the scalloped edge around my main circle. This works great with hearts as well, although sometimes the circle works best with bigger images such as this 6” one.
Stamp Press – Stamps are so versatile and can be added straight onto your project or you can hand cut the stamped image and position it on your project. Check out the funky scalloped border in the “Kids Birthday” set, the very elegant scalloped oval in the “Baby” set and the beautiful scalloped border also in the “Baby” set. I have a few cards in my gallery utilising these stamps, so if you need some inspiration head on over and check them out.
Freehand – Of course if you’re really arty, you could hand-draw or doodle your own scallops and cut them out for a real funky look.
So what’s your poison? I challenge you to have a go at creating some scallops of your own and showcasing them on a project of your choice. You can make a card, create an off-the-page project, do a layout or a tag – it’s entirely up to you.
Remember you do not have to use Fiskars tools/products to enter this challenge, but you just might win a great prize – you’ve gotta be in it to win it.
All entries need to be emailed here so that they can be uploaded to the gallery for everyone to admire. The challenge closes on the 15th and I’ll announce the winner on the 16th November.
Good luck everyone and have fun.
Cheers Paula
