Layered Heart Card with tutorial

Hi all

Gosh its hot here in Christchurch, New Zealand!
And yes the ground is still shaking here but only small 3 pointers and under and is hardly noticable. Last weekend we had a 4.6 though and the only thought I had was that it could have waited till I had the DVD on that I was going to watch.... a shake during a battle scene has an awesome 4D effect!

No its not scarey to me here anymore. The kids also shrug it all off. But we are the lucky ones. There are still people having massive problems with EQC and Insurance companies. Not to mention the center of the city is still closed and broken. Buildings are being demolished still and cleared. Orientation is hard especially when we had relyed on buildings as land marks that are no longer there.

Putting that aside everything is right and dandy.... Hot weather for summer. My kids will be going to school next week so I really can't wait till that happens. LOL

But here is a card I decided to put together (i had a spare few minutes).

The layered heart card was put together as follows:
1. take out three sheets of red paper (thin paper) and trim the paper just under the size of the front of the card

2. Then cut a heart using the fiskars Ultra shape express and heart template with the self healing mat to protect your work surface in the middle of each.

3. Take one of these pieces, from the wrong side use your fiskars Shapeboss and sample template - and emboss using the stylus.

4. lightly sand all the embossed hearts etc with a sanding block

5. stick together all red layers

6. stick down all red layers to black cardstock

7. use black paper twine or twine to make a bow in front

8. you are done!

The great thing about hand embossing with your Mini ShapeBoss is that you can pick and choose the images you want to emboss and put them exactly where you want them to be on your project.



For my Christmas tags I hand embossed some Core'dinations Black Magic cardstock and sanded the embossed edges to expose the green core underneath, then added some red ribbon, red rhinestones and Stardust Stickles to bling them up a bit.  Two completely different tags made using the same Happy Holidays stencil.

Tools and materials used:

Fiskars snowflake texture plate used with the Cuttlebug.

Fiskars lace border punch

Distress ink – Faded jeans

Craft T products silver rub-on

Snowflake die-cuts with Kindyglitz and pearls

Scraps of punched paper scraps.

Textured background is done by cutting a piece of white cardstock and direct to card cover with distress ink then mist with water. Whilst the card is damp run it through your embossing machine with the Fiskars snowflake texture plate. Allow to dry them gently rub the silver rub-on over some of the embossed flakes with your finger.

Attach to a base card and layer as you choose.

Here is the pink card I made for World Cardmaking Day

Do you know all the Fiskars tools that I used?

I always start with my green Self Healing Craft Mat and FingerTip Craft Knife.

Used my Mini ShapeBoss to dry emboss the sentiment with the Embossing Stylus.

The black paper lace was made using the Sunburst border punch.

The flower is made of pretty punchy layers, starting with a Medium Round 'n Round squeeze punch (a circle base that all the petals attach to). The green petals are large That's Amore squeeze punch hearts, the flowers are the Extra Large and Large Oopsie Daisy squeeze punches.  All the petals were sanded to show the colour core of the beautiful Core'dinations Whitewash cardstock then curled using a wooden skewer.  The green hearts were adhered to the circle, a hole pierced into the centre of it, as well as both flowers and they were secured together with a brad and adhered onto the card using Helmar 450 Quick Dry.

A punchy flower card for my Dad

Father's Day is just around the corner, so is my Dad's birthday and a couple of other birthdays too, so masculine cards are in demand at our house this month.

Dad loves his garden and I love making punchy flowers, so I thought I would combine our loves and ended up with this card.

The Core Amour cardstock from Core'dinations has a lovely texture and the grey-on-grey colour combo looks nice and masculine too.  I used my Mini-ShapeBoss to emboss "Dad", rounded the corners with my 1/4 Round Squeeze Punch, then lightly sanded off the top of the embossed letters and edges for added contrast.

Here is a close up of my punchy flower - do you recognise all the punches used?

To make the flower I start with a medium Round 'n Round squeeze punch circle for the base.  Next comes 4x large That's Amour squeeze punch hearts, curling them for dimension using a wooden skewer, attaching them to the circle base with some adhesive (I use Helmar 450 Quick Dry).  Then layer an XL & L Oopsie Daisy squeeze punch flower on top, finishing off with 2x mediume May Flower squeeze punch flowers.  Before attaching them all together I curl the ends of each petal then pierce a hole in the middle, so that they can be secured in place with a brad.  The "Dad" block is mounted on foam dots to match the dimension of the flower.

A quick change of colours or background pattern would make this card work for any occasion.

A punchy card for my Father

My Dad's birthday and Father's Day are just around the corner, so here is one of the cards I have made to help him celebrate.

Do you know all the Fiskars tools I used?

Started off with my Mini-ShapeBoss and Embossing Stylus to emboss the letters, then took my large Seal of Approval squeeze punch to punch each one out.  As I used Core'dinations cardstock, I sanded off the embossing and outer edges to highlight them.  The XL Seal of Approval is behind the metal clock face (a lucky bargain on sale at Spotlight yesterday).

Next came the banner bits - I used the Jenni Bowlin Blue Ribbon squeeze punch (thanks heaps Lyn, that was the punch I won from you earlier this year) but only punched along a strip using the top section of the punch.

Last, but definitely not least came my Scalloped Sentiment border punch for the pretty edge along the striped paper.  The dots are embossed dots on Core'dinations cardstock that have been sanded back for contrast.

I had heaps of fun making this card and hope that my Dad likes it too.

Nail Art With Fiskars

Ok I am ready to blow your mind... Not with the pictures but the concept of using an old tool a new way....

These tools are called embossing stylus'
Generally used to dry emboss with the Fiskars Big Boss.

But I was looking at nail art and saw a tool called a "Dotting tool"
It looked so similar to the Fiskars embossing stylus....

So this is what I did...

The dots on the "cracked lace" design is done with the embossing stylus.

again the black dots here are done with the embossing stylus...

So Yes Fiskars Tools are also useable as - fashion and beauty tools!

Nostalgia Ruby Rock-it Easter Basket Tutorial

Hi all. Would you believe it? Easter is just around the corner and the kids in NZ have one more week after this one left for school term! This term has gone soooo fast!

Well this morning I got some happy mail from Fynmark (the company that does Bella! and Ruby Rock-it)

We as a team here at Fiskars Craft has been asked to create things with the Nostalgia collection and Bella! Sugar Candy (sparkly and embossed cardstocks).

Yes only recieved this morning and I leaped into creating with it and here is the tutorial for these easter baskets....

Step one:
Cut out 5" circle using Supersized Circles

step 2:
score a 3.50" circle template inside the circle

Step 3:
Cut 1/2" increments up to the scored circle

step 4:
fold along the score line

step 5:
Cut 5" strip from 12x1" cardstock

Step 6:
Use Adhesive tape along bottom of this strip

Step 7:
Stick around the basket base and Staple closed.

Step 8:
Cut 1" strip then staple to basket side for the handle.

now decorate the basket with a punched 1" strip of cardstock on the top. Punched with the boarder punch "up in the clouds"

now add the chipboard pieces and paper twine where you wanted.

and you are finished!

Happy St Patrick's day/green challenge

Hello there everyone, gosh i think it has been a week since i posted last. how slack am i! 

Well today i am firstly wishing you all a happy St Patrick's day. And what better way to celebrate than with a card AND the possibility to win a challenge!

That's right! over on the Fisk-a-teers site Tami has a Green color challenge for the month of march. 

I have made a card up for this challenge to showcase for you and when making the card i made sure that i did a bit of embossing on the card, well we are all about embossing this month aren't we!

I used My fiskars texture plates to create the bubbly background. I used my texture plate in my die cutting machine. it was quite easy to do. i did a tutorial ages ago on how to do this. you can find it here. I also used the new Fiskars jenni bowlin Jester border punch to make my sentiment tag. The stamps were Lawn fawn for the hat, and the little man was from Paper smooches. Lastly i made the clover with a small fiskars heart punch. this fiskars punch is like 7 or so years old and still works like new!!!

The colours and textures of Rango

Tami had some fun challenges to celebrate the Oscars on Fiskateers.

The 1st challenge was to create a project inspired by one of the films nominated for an Oscar, with the catch being that you had to have seen the film.  After searching and searching through all the nominations I finally found one that I had seen.  Rango was nominated for and won Best Animated Feature Film.  For those of you that haven't seen it, Rango is the main character, a cute little chameleon.  Here is the card I created thanks to the colours and textures inspired by Rango.  The Fiskars Scalloped Sentiment border punch reminded me of the shape around his eyes, as did the XL Seal of Approval squeeze punch.  Put an XL Round 'n Round squeeze punch circle behind it so that the scallops had a bit more contrast.

How do you like the textures?

Dry embossing is so much fun to do.  The embossed "birthday" sentiment was done using my Fiskars Mini ShapeBoss and Embossing Stylus.

The green layers were embossed using my "Scales" Fiskars Texture Plate with the help of a Fiskars Embossing Tool and Embossing Stylus.

Next came the envelope challenge, so I created an envelope for my Rango card.  The card was too big to make an envelope for using 12x12 paper, so I was lucky to have a 6.5" square envelope in my stash and the card just fitted in.  After a bit of folding from the back, I was able to emboss the birthday boy's name on the front of the envelope using my Fiskars Mini ShapeBoss.

There are so many different stencils for embossing with your Fiskars ScrapBoss and Mini ShapeBoss and Texture Plates to suit any occasion.
