How do you get to the Craft and Quilt Fair?
The Perth Craft & Quilt Fair is being held at the
Perth Convention Exhibition Centre (PCEC).
Getting to the PCEC is easy. If you're not driving, there are many
transport options, including the new train station, that bring you to
the door of the centre - or at least a short stroll away.
Walking
Feel
like some fresh air and the opportunity to enjoy Perth's fabulous
weather? The PCEC is located next to the Swan River and its many
walking paths. From South Perth, the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre
is a 20-minute stroll over the Narrows Bridge. From Perth's Central
Business District, the PCEC is between a 5-minute and 15-minute walk,
depending on your starting point. And from West Perth, just walk down
King's Park Road and onto St Georges Terrace before heading down to the
PCEC (see PCEC Location Map).
Train
Perth's train system is operated by Westrail. The brand new Esplanade
train station right next to the PCEC is now open with trains running
regularly. For train timetables and further information, see www.transperth.wa.gov.au
Bus
There are 13 bus service areas within the Perth region, with four major
bus operators. Perth's central bus station, known as the BusPort, is
located adjacent to the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and bus
services to all suburbs of Perth are frequent. There is also a free
Central Area Transit (CAT) bus service that runs through the City of Perth. For bus timetables and further information, see www.transperth.wa.gov.au
Ferry
Perth Water Transport operates ferries from the Barrack Street jetty in
Perth to the South Perth foreshore. The Barrack Street jetty is a
five-minute walk from the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre. For ferry
timetables and further information, see www.transperth.wa.gov.au
Parking
There are a number of parking stations located near the PCEC. Click here to view a map of parking stations across the CBD.
For information on City of Perth Parking, call 1300 889 613 or visit www.perth.wa.gov.au/parking
For information on Wilson Parking Stations, call 08 9415 2800 or visit www.wilsonparking.com.au
Taxi
Perth's taxi drivers are well known as being friendly and helpful.
There are taxi ranks near the Perth Convention Exhibition Centre and
taxis can also be hailed from the street. Taxis can drop off guests in
a "drop-off zone" in the PCEC's arrival plaza. When booking a taxi,
make sure you advise the taxi companies of special requirements. Taxi
companies in the Perth and surrounding areas are:
Black and White Taxis - phone 13 10 08
Independent Taxis - phone (08) 9375 7777
Swan Taxis - phone 13 13 30
Another special feature at the Perth Craft and Quilt Fair is:
QUILTWEST 2009
Nature’s Beauty

The West Australian Quilters’ Association (WAQA) is a group of
dedicated, talented and community-minded individuals, ready to share
their passion for patchwork. See their major annual exhibition of more
than 250 spectacular quilts at the fair.
The theme for QuiltWest 2009 is Nature’s Beauty, and it will be
officially opened on the first day of the fair by Liz Pye, Curtin FM’s
afternoon radio presenter, and also a quilter.
As part of the display visitors will enjoy quilts from the WAQA
Contemporary Group; Hexagon & Crazy Patchwork display; quilts from
the Bunbury International Challenge; and the Community Quilt display.
You might even bump into one of their celebrity members such as
Jocelyne Leath, Adriana Gismondi or Ruth de Vos – all multi-award
winning quilters and designers.
Members will be demonstrating quilting techniques each day, working
on community quilts for charity; they hope to complete 20 quilts during
the fair. Visitors will have the opportunity to get involved by
hand-sewing blocks and paper piecing hexagons. Juniors can try quilting
in the popular Kids Corner. This year, award winning quilter Jan Rowe,
will be guiding the youngsters as they design patchwork blocks using
colour paper cut-outs.

Visit the display to learn more about the art of quilting, get
advice or enquire about the many benefits of becoming a WAQA member.
Raffle Quilt
Buy a ticket to be in the running to win this year’s raffle quilt
(pictured left) made by members of the association, and other prizes
including a Bernina sewing machine, lap-size quilt and table runner.
