Friday Fiskars Focus - Debbie Guihot (NSW)

Let me introduce you all to one of our amazingly talented Fiskars Demonstrators....Debbie comes from New South Wales and she loves crafting!!!  Here's what Debbie had to say when asked to join in with the Friday Fiskars Focus!

 

Hi I'm Debbie Guihot,

I own " The Plague and I " patchwork shop in Canowindra Central western NSW.

1. How long have you been crafting?

I've been crafting for 44 years, apparently aged 3 "sewed" buttons to some fabric and my Dad wore his " new shirt " to work in his pocket all day. Crafting was normal in our house.

2. Why did you start crafting?

I come from a generations of self taught crafty people.You name it we did it.My favorite craft though is patchwork . I am fabric obsessed.

3.How long have you been a Fiskars Demonstrator?

I have been demonstrating Fiskars patchwork tools for about 2 years now.

4.What is your favourite Fiskars Tool?

I really love the Donna Dewberry range stocked in my shop(you cant have too much purple) but my most favorite tool is the Fiskars rotating cutting mat. So much more accurate to tun the mat , not the fabric.Extra great for trimming finished blocks to size.

5. How do you define your crafting style!

I always thought of myself as a strictly traditional / scrappy quilt girl, but with my first art quilt being so successful I would like to explore more. (need another day in the week)

6. What time of day do you like to craft?

I like to craft all day, everyday, my shop is treated like a giant sewing room. Night time is for hand work,embroidery. applique or hand quilting.

7. What motivates/inspires you?

Antique quilts definately inspire me . The intricate geometric patterns so beautifully produced by women who weren't considered smart enough to be taught geometry in maths.

I also love the make do world of depression era quilts where the need for warmth over ruled perfection. These can be so beautiful even with wonky blocks and slightly dodgy color selections

Fiskars Friday Focus - Azza Sedrak

Let me introduce you to one of our Sydney Craft Demonstrators - Azza. You may have seen Azza demonstrating at some of the Sydney Shows over the past few years....

1. How long have you been crafting?  

              25 years

2.Why did you start  crafting?     

    I have been doing some sort of art all my life I remember as a child building houses from boxes and putting doors and curtains and creating tables and chairs from what ever product was around.   Then went back to it after having children self teaching my self an assortment of art forms then took a few classes and started selling my art when I was approached to start teaching that was almost 20 years ago and have been teaching ever since.

3.How long have you been a Fiskars Demonstrator ?    

Approx 5 years

4. What are your favourite craft activities? 

Mixed media and teaching

5.How do you define your crafting style? 

 Mixed media

6.What is your favourite time of day to craft? 

When ever I can as I have a full time job. 

7.What motivates/inspires you? 

 I love it when new product comes out that I can use to create things outside the square 

8.If you could have only one Fiskars Tool....what would it be and why? 

My fiskars rotary cutter it is my most used tool, it is precise and makes cutting cardboard easy.   My new fiskars Guilotine is being used just as much lately.

Fiskars Friday Focus - Lorraine Lee Tynerman (NSW)

Let me introduce you to Lorraine Lee who lives in New South Wales.....you may have seen LEE at the Stitches and Craft Shows,Craft Expos or Craft and Quilt Fairs demonstrating for FISKARS both in Sydney and Newcastle!

I’m Lorraine-Lee Tyerman and I live on the Central Coast of NSW a couple of hours north of Sydney. I have two fantastic boys who keep me really busy running them around to anything and everything and I love to visit with my mum whenever possible.

Here are Lee's answers to the  interview questions:

1. How long have you been crafting?

I will make myself sound really old here but since I was 3 years old so that is 43 years now.

2.Why did you start crafting?

My mum and grandmother were big on craft and I guess I just followed their creative footsteps.

3.How long have you been a Fiskars Demonstrator ?

A long time, I think it has been around 10 years now.

4. What are your favourite craft activities?

I am a bit of a craft junkie and will try anything once but I guess paper crafts are my ultimate favourites, scrapbooking, card making and paper tole to name a few.

5.How do you define your crafting style?

That is a hard one to answer as it depends on my mood. I do love order and simple lines most of the time but I love the challenge of going all out using colours that I don’t normally use and getting all frilly and girly. Most of my scrapbooking is for my boys so I have to borrow friends daughters to do girly stuff for.

6.What is your favourite time of day to craft?

I am a bit of a night owl so my favourite time is between midnight and 5am on a Sunday morning when the boys are asleep and the house is all mine.

7.What motivates/inspires you?

My boys would top the list on that one, meeting people and listening to their stories about their lives and I think just life in general as there is always something different happening spurring me on to try something new. I have to add also looking at the fantastic creations of other people. There are some really creative people out there.

8.If you could have only one Fiskars Tool....what would it be and why?

There are two items that I would find impossible to live without, my paper trimmer and my soft touch micro tip scissors but I guess the scissors would have to top the list as I use them for everything, including my paper tole and 3 dimensional paper crafts.
