Flower making Tutorial x3

Hi all... I'm on a flower making fettish at the moment and decided to share it with you. ;)
Also a good way to use up your bits of scrap paper.
Some of these have been adapted from other Tutorials from the internet.

The First flower we will be making is....
Scallop punch flower.

1. Punch 3 Scallop Circles with the Fiskars XL Sealed with aproval Squeese punch

2. Cut at every second dip in the scallops (there will be a one bump left- but never mind that)

3. one spray of water onto each scallop circle

4. Squew up the flower carefully and then make it flat again

5. Quick dry the scallops with a heat gun.

6. Glue the layers ontop of each other

7. Put your chosen flower center in the flower

Top to bottom.... Flowersoft Heather, Kaisercraft rhinestones, Cloud9 raindot --- the centers are endless in what you can put there.

Before gluing the layers together try:
a. inking edges in darker ink pad such as Early Espresso ink pad by Stampin Up!

b. Gold or silver heat emboss the flower petals

Second Tutorial: Boarder Punch Flower Tutorial

The aboved flower is made with the Fiskars Grass boarder punch. Cool aye.
1. Punch the grass boarder punch

2. Cut the strip at 2cm mark on the fiskars SureCuts Trimmer

3. Punch out a circle with Fiskars L circle squeeze punch

4. Spritz the punched boarder with water

5. Squew up the boarder and then make it flatish again

6. Get out a good strong tape glue or a hot glue gun and use the circle as a base.
Start out in them middle working around till you finish the boarder strip.

I made sure the petals wher pointing up and not flat at first when I was working it.

7.  Trim the circle to the base of the flower, flatten out the flower with your fingers and add some Flowersoft or your choice of center and that flower is done!

Flower Tutorial number 3: Ultra Shape Express flower

1. This flower is done with the Ultrashape Express cutter and Cupcake template.

Cut three of the flowers out from the template

2. With a foam pad and a Fiskars embossing stylus mark out lines from the petals on the font side

3. With the larger ball of the embossing stylus on the back side of the flowers lightly shape between the embossed lines... then flip it back over to the front side and emboss the middle of the flowers...

4. Glue all the layers together as shown...

5. now add your choice of center and you are done!

Now no lot of new embellishments is any good without some packaging to help display your new goodies!
Get a cereal box and cut a piece from it to fit into a ziplock sandwich bag...

Now blue tack the flowers to the cardboard and put into the bag.

Now your new embellishments await your very command!
(I find pre-making and putting my embellishments in bags helps keep their shape and are easy to use straight away without having to make some extra thing when doing a layout/project or card etc)

Loving this SPRING weather

Just popping in to show you what I have been up to this weekend.....it's been a glorious SPRING day here in the Yarra Valley so I have been picking Lavender from our garden to dry.....I want to make more of these for pressies......my Fiskars Pruners sure came in handy...they are so easy to use!!!

I had to fight off the bees to prune the Lavender...they were having such a nice time pollenating them....

I also found this grass hopper hiding amongst the lavender flowers......can you see him? mmm check out the two bees....think they are up to no good.....LOL!

I have also been washing windows.....OMG.....I hate this with a vengence......but it's a job that can wait no longer.....we actually need to see out of them......LOL!

Arriving by courier yesterday was this package of goodies from Fynmark...product from the Fundamentals and Ruby Rock-It Ranges....

These are the supplies for my Spotlight VIP Xmas Night next Thursday in Bayswater.....don't they look yummy!!!

mmmmm.....need to get cracking on my Make'n'takes......back Monday with some sneak peeks....

What a gorgeous SPRING DAY today!! Out and About with Lyn

Guess where hubby and I were today!! We had a meeting in Melbourne and had some time to spare so we ventured nearby into the Fitzroy Gardens and into the Conservatory.....OMG....you have to go if you are in Melbourne....the Cinerarias and Cyclamen are in full bloom as are the Orchids....

We were amazed at the gorgeous aroma of the flowers as we walked inside.....we were lucky enough to meet one of the gardeners in there....so we had a lovely chat to him about the plants!

I had never been to the Conservatory so I was delighted to be able to fit in this visit into our day!

If you get the chance....make time to go there....it's FREE and it's FABULOUS!! They change the flowers for the different Seasons!

We were at a meeting at the Park Hyatt which is just a 5 minute walk from the Fitzroy Gardens....so we made a point of walking over there....and I'm so glad that we did!!

We came way with some NEW design ideas for in the Nursery at the Blue Lotus Watergarden for the coming season.......BE WARNED though...........................don't park in the Park Hyatt Car Park....it's darn expensive!

I must admit this was the first day for over a week since I was well enough to go outdoors and really ENJOY the warmer SPRING weather..............hope others get a chance to venture out into the garden this week......SRINGTIME really is a great time to garden.......!!!! It's also amazing how much better I felt after getting out into that Spring weather...plants really have a soothing effect on my body!! No matter how ill I may be.....it's always gardening that brightens my day when I'm unwell....or just a bunch of flowers in the house.....plants really bring me so much pleasure!!

Brighten up your Christmas Table this year

Why not try creating your own Floral Arrangement to brighten up your Christmas Table this year!!

It's really not that hard....all you need are some flowers and greenery from your garden....or if you don't have many plants...ask a neighbour if you can use some of theirs....that way it cuts down the cost....to repay the favour...you could also make one for your neighbour.

I really love creating handmade Floral Arrangements....just by adding a candle to the centre it gives your arrangement a bit of a lift.....I embellished my candle by using my Fiskars Trimmer and Fiskars Effervescence Border Punch.....................then I also punched out some shapes using the Fiskars Pine For Me Limited Edition Squeeze Punch.....but you could use another squeeze punch to have a similar effect......perhaps a "star", "hearts", "circles",etc. To cut the flowers from my plants I used my trusty Fiskars Pruners.

a Fiskary flower - layer those punches

I opened up my emails yesterday and saw this gorgeous Fiskary flower that Fiskateer # 6773 ....Tracy Maloney had created.....she tells me that she is feeling a little " Punch Drunk" at the moment.....LOL!

Tracy has been punching up a storm creating some family birthday CARDS of late and has given her Fiskars Punches a good workout......so no wonder she is feeling a little "PUNCH DRUNK".....I know the feeling Tracy....I can very much relate to how you are feeling right now.....having been punching away myself at the moment......but having the Fiskars Punches....sure makes life a whole lot easier doesn't it!

I love hoW Tracy has used the Fiskars Heart Squeeze Punch to create the outside petals of the flower...and then curled them up slightly.....and the layering by using the other punched shapes.....very creative! Do others use this technique on their projects?

Thank you for sharing with us all Tracy.....can't wait to see what Tracy does next with her Border Punches and Mini Scrapboss....that's the tools she is using for her cards next.....ooh that reminds me....must get mine out to have a play..........................

I noticed that Spotlight Bayswater had the Card Boss for only about $10 last week.....and they alos hade the packs of Fiskars Texture Plates with a Texturing Tool included for about $10-12 .....a bargain!

See if you can make some and put them on a stick and in a vase for your kitchen/lounge.

Getting off AUTO MODE - yeh!!!

Just popping in to share a few pics with you all......I am in Week 3 of my Mastering Manual Mode Photography Course at Big Picture Scrapbooking On-line Classes and loving it......even shouted myself a new lens for my Nikon D40....it's a little beauty 50mm f1.8 lens so I can take pics at a smaller Aperture now...I'm still learning....but at least I'm now starting to GET IT....you know ....ISO,F-stop(Aperture) ,Shutter Speed .....and what does what....LOL!

I'm also teaching myself how to use my GIMP Photo Image Program...it's a FREE Program...not as versatile as Photoshop though.....but it's FREE!

I love taking pics of our garden but I also need to take some pics of people....so that can be my task for the rest of the week.

I'm having fun learning though....just need another 24 hours in the day at the moment!

So what do you think? I'd love some feedback .......this is my little TREAT to MYSELF to start the year!! I want to be able to get the best out of my SLR Camera when we head overseas in July!

Fiskars Friday Focus - Lyn Dwyer (Lead Ambassador)

ok I guess it's only fair that I too have to answer the questions that I asked the other Fiskars Ambassadors...so here we go  I'm Lyn Dwyer Lead Fiskars Ambassador AUSTRALIA...I live in the YARRA VALLEY in Victoria with my wonderful hubby Rod .

We have 4 gorgeous sons and 2 beautiful daughter-in-laws and 1 handsome little grandson SAM

Tim and Michael still live with us here, Brian and Jess are in Coral Bay in Western Australia and Brendan ,Sally and Sam live in Rowville,Victoria. Family are very important to me

1. How long have you been crafting?

I have always loved creating things from Cards to Floral Arrangements since I was at Secondary Schooland taking photos.....now that's too far back to remember......LOL! But it's only been since I retired from Primary Teaching in 2003 that I have had more time on my hands

2.Why did you start crafting?

After a major illness at the end of 2001 I had to change the direction that my life was headed in and that meant giving up the very thing I loved doing....Teaching Children....although this was hard for me it virtually saved my life......so I had to find other things to occupy my day and something that I enjoyed doing for ME!!   I decided to do some Patchwork Classes at my local store and although I loved it....it was Scrapbooking that really took my fancy after I attended a Scrapbooking Convention in Melbourne.

From there I was offered work with Fiskars and also Teaching at Simply Scrapbooking in Eltham....(I didn't have a clue who Fiskars they were back then....LOL!)...and the rest is history.....

3.How long have you been a Fiskars Ambassador?

I have been a Fiskars Demonstrator for 9 years- Ambassador for 5 of those...and in my 4th year as Lead Ambassador....I'm also a very active Fiskateer !

4. What are your favourite craft activities?

I love creating cards for family and friends,Scrapbooking,creating Mini Albums and Off the Page Type Projects....I also love playing around with flowers and making flower arrangements when I can. 

 

I love to create my own Christmas Floral Table Centre Pieces each year for our family Christmas Dinner on Christmas Eve 

5.How do you define your crafting style?

I don't really have a set style as I love to try new techniques and ideas..I just love learning..the only thing I would say is that I'm NOT a plain and simple Crafter....I love adding that bit extra to a project for a 3 -D effect 

6.What is your favourite time of day to craft?

I mainly craft in the morning or afternoon....very rarely of an evening!!

7.What motivates/inspires you?

My family and friends....especially my grandson Sam...I love taking his pics and scrapping them!

I also get inspired by other crafters....especially at Craft Shows, on-line sites,Fiskateers gallery. 

Sometimes NEW product also inspires me to create...you know when you receive something and just have to rip it from it's package and play with it....LOL! 

I also Inspire myself with my constant need to LEARN something NEW.....I absolutely love that CHALLENGE!! My latest Challenge is to Master my SLR camera in Manual Mode...so I am participating in an 8 week course at Big Picture Scrapbooking and I'm loving it!!

8.If you could have only one Fiskars Tool....what would it be and why?

I'd be lost without my Fiskars Softouch Scissors and Fiskars Euro Personal Trimmer!

Wanna' grow your own fresh air?

How to Grow Your Own Fresh Air

In the late 1980s, NASA set about studying how plants can help filter toxins out of the air and replace it with fresh, clean oxygen. More recently, Kamal Meattle gave a TED Conference talk on how to use those plants to clean the polluted air of his hometown, New Delhi, India.
The topic has stayed on the forefront of people's minds because modern life can often be toxic. And it's not just car exhaust and smoke stack fumes. Carpet, paint, and even copy machines can give off something called volatile organic compounds (VOCs) which can cause many adverse health effects. To make matters worse, energy efficient homes trap that air inside. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has found that indoor air can be up to 10 times worse than what’s outside!
Fortunately, plants can help. The houseplants listed below are some of the best in filtering out common VOCs, like trichloroethylene, benzene, and formaldehyde. For a typical home, you'll need about 15 plants in 6 inch pots (or larger) to effectively clean the air in your home. Be sure to select a variety of the plants, as some are better at filtering certain chemicals than others.
1. Lady palm, Rhapis excelsa
2. Bamboo palm, Chamaedorea seifrizii
3. Rubber plant, Ficus robusta
4. Dracaena “Janet Craig,” Dracaena deremensis “Janet Craig”
5. English ivy, Hedera helix
6. Peace lily, Spathiphyllum sp.
7. Red-Edged Dracaena, Dracaena marginata
8. Snake Plant, Sansevieria trifasciata
9. Janet Craig dracaena,
Dracaena deremensis `Janet Craig'
10. Warneck dracaena,
Dracaena deremensis `Warneckii'
As a side note, one of the plants NASA studied is an excellent humidifier. One six foot Areca Palm will put a quart of water into the air in a day. Dry winter air often contributes to sinus nfections and sore throats. Wouldn't it be nice to increase your home's humidity without having to fuss with a mechanical humidifier?
