Mothers quotes - day 9

I asked the lovely Fiskateers about a month ago to quote their mothers. Some were awesomely hilarious.... (to me. I could have a warpt sense on humour though).

I also found out even though we are an international bunch that most mothers/caregivers said similar things to us when growing up.

My mission during this month is to do some creative thing with as many quotes I can (as time allows).

Day 9 brings us to:
"Don't write anything you don't want to see on the front page of the news paper!"

This paper pencil idea was originally from a swap I did with Dee Sturgeon.

"Eat: there are children in China/Africa starving!"

I opted for my childrens Felt Food Menu... they have been asking for a menu for a long time for their "Resturant" I have been making felt food for it so they finally have a menu.

see this is what happened to me. I didn't listen to my mum.... lol

Fiskars tools used:
1/4" hand hole punch
1/8" hand hole punch
Fiskateer scissors
Cutting mat
Ultra shape expresss
Tag shape template
Fingertip craft knife

I cut out corrugated cardboard scissor blades and covered them with paper using Helmar acid free glue. Put them together with a brad and added the tag with ribbon. They actually open and close! But don't cut paper.

Happy Mother's DAY!!!

                                            

Happy Mother's Day to all our mum's out there in cyberland and also to all the ladies who may not be lucky enough to have children of your own but who always give lots of love and support to other children in your circle of friends and family!

As women we all take on that Maternal Role at some stage in our lives......it's instinct!

Hope you all have a magical day!!

One of the most rewarding experiences for me in my MUM Role.....is being able to offer love and support to my own children as they now have children of their own.....being a NANA is the best feeling in the world.....and our family shall be blessed with another little child to love and cherish come late September.

YES.....SAM shall have a little sister.....so darn exciting! So  I need to get my act into gear and get some more pics of Sam scrapped beofre bubs number 2 comes along....LOL!

I recently completed this LAYOUT to record this SPECIAL MOMENT IN TIME of the first time I held SAM(grandchild) in my arms....less than 24 hours after he was born! I still REMEMBER how special this was......it was that same feeling of over whelming love that I felt after I had my first child - Brendan.....Sam's father...I took this pic whilst on holidays.....I loved using the NEW Fiskars All the Holes Corner Lever Punch to create the fun borders....and then just added some bling!

Phillipa Godinho (Pip) from Fiskars HO here in Port Melbourne created this recently for the Sydney Paper Crafts Festival.....she has used the Fiskars Butterfly Template and the Ultra Xpress Shape Cutter.

Butterflies can be used on many different cards....OR you could also add one to your Scrapbook Page...maybe to the side of a Photo Frame or even on the top of a present....looks rather cute on top of tied ribbon!!

The card above was created last week by Tara Capewell from Sydney.....you may have seen this card if you visited the Sydney Paper Crafts Festival......Tara has done a beautiful job of this hasn't she...using Bazzill White for the background of the card.....and the Fiskars Corner Border Punch to do the edges.

So maybe this card might inspire you to get out your Stamps TODAY....and see what you can create with them.....maybe use a Fiskars Stamp Block,Fiskars Stamp Factory or even the Fiskars Stamp Press!!

Queen Bee Mother's Day Brunch

Mother's Day is the perfect time to throw a fun brunch to honor those special moms in our lives. It's also a reason to have fun crafting! Here I came up with a "Queen Bee" theme to have some creative fun. I like starting with a theme to organize myself and to get brainstorming. The first place I usually start is the place setting as it is both functional and decorative.

For a brunch, consider giving muffins the cupcake treatment. I created a topper and wrap to turn a regular muffin festive. Since the muffins were larger than a regular cupcake, I decided to make my own pattern for a crown wrap. Trace a dinner plate onto a piece of cardstock to create a template. Then cut out the center using the Super Sized Circle Templates. Pick the size that works for the height of your muffin wrapper. Then make a cut from any point on the outside of circle straight toward the center. Wrap the template around muffin and mark cutting point (leave room for overlapping). Cut from this point straight to the center of the circle. This is your template. Trace onto cardstock and cut out. Angle a scalloped square punch as shown to create top of crown.

Mark the center of each point and punch out as shown.

Adhere together around muffin and top with an accordion folded strip of a book page or patterned paper topped with a scalloped circle center. I'll explain the bee a little further down.

Dress up regular cardstock with a honeycomb pattern to add to the bee theme.

Just sprinkle a few here and there to give that honeycomb effect. The hexagons are easy to make. Cut out several diamonds from the Flowers & Fun Shapes set using the Ultra ShapeXpress on a craft mat. Take one to make your template. Fold the top and bottom tips down 5/8 of an inch each. Cut off these pieces and you are left with a hexagon. Place this template onto each diamond to easily snip off tips.

I mentioned the bees above, which I sprinkled around the brunch. They were created from the Fleur de Lis lever punch.

Punch a Fleur de Lis from both yellow cardstock and vellum. Cut and layer as shown. Add black stripes with a pen.

Beehive wired holders are versatile here, from photo holders on the tables to food labels for the buffet.

Punch out nine scalloped ovals feeding partially into punch as shown. Fold each in half and adhere sides. Cut a piece of sturdy wire and wrap tightly around a pencil several times. Insert into center of beehive.

I figured we definitely needed some flowers for the bees. These hanging accordion circles are taken to the next level using border punches.

Run a border punch along the top and bottom of a book page (or use patterned paper cut down to size). Accordion fold, fold in half, and adhere together with a glue stick. Repeat to create four fans and adhere altogether. Hot glue a yarn pom pom to the center (just wrap yarn around two fingers, tie at center with yarn and clip loops with scissors).

Fiskars also makes a great honeycomb texture plate you can incorporate into your brunch from napkin rings to labels. Here is an example of a little clay jewelry dish I made using this texture plate that would make a very appropriate Mother's Day gift for this theme. Check out the project here on the site.

another great Mother's Day Gift Idea

Clay Jewelry Dish

These little dishes are very useful gifts for Mother's Day to store coins, keys, and jewelry. They are also fun to make and quite addictive. I wanted to play around with clay using texture plates and the new rubber stamps for fun and ended up creating pieces I truly love.
To create a dish using texture plates:
1. Condition Sculpey oven-bake clay per instructions.

2. Roll out clay on protected surface with acrylic roller to 1/4 inch or less in thickness.

3. Place onto texture plate (first sprinkle with water to avoid sticking) and roll gently.

4. Remove from texture plate gently and return to protected surface.

5. Place Super Sized Circle Template onto clay and cut out with toothpick. Don't worry about any jagged edges as the clay can be sanded after baking.

Tip: You can first cut out the circle from a piece of wax paper to layer between clay and template for super quick clean-up.

6. Place upside down onto small paper bowl as shown gently pressing edges down and bake on baking sheet according to directions.

7. Once cooled, sand if needed and paint with acrylic paint as desired (try painting in grooves and removing excess paint from ridges with paper towel to accentuate texture) and finish with glossy top coat to protect.

Be sure to clean any clay from tools immediately.

You can try other large shapes, too. Here I've used the largest heart from the heart template.

This texture was created the same way using a background stamp.
