Hi all
something for the boys for valentines day....
A felt heart monster pouch for their little things....
You will need:
Fiskars quilt cutting mat
Fiskars Supersized hearts
Fiskars pinking shears
Fiskars scissors
Fiskars titanium rotary cutter
other items used:
sewing machine, thread, pins, taylors chalk pencil, various felt pieces.
1. draw out your large heart with the template and taylors chalk
2. cut it out. Then using other felt pieces make up another heart the same size...
3. sew a middle strip to the bottom of the heart...
4. Cut out a handle and pin/sew it to the top of the heart.... also attaching it to the black back heart.
5. cut out pieces for the eyes and mouth...and sew them in place onto the front half heart we made at step 3
6. lay the face panel ontop of the back panel and sew around the outside.... and your heart is finished.
hang it in a spot your son can find it when he gets home from school.... with his favourite things inside it... ;)
Hope you enjoyed this simple tutorial...
Thanks for dropping by!

Hi all
You know how I've been making scripture and quote card holders for the ladies at my church group? Well this week I have taken on a different angle....
Decided to make the older ones some home made Potpourri wardrobe hangers.
Here's how I did it...
I already had dried various flowers/orange skins/rosemary etc
I used black felt for the backing
for the front I cut up an old lace top from the second hand store
The ribbon is from my stash - really old stuff from Maya Road.
First:
Trace around the outside of a supersized heart template with a dressmakers chalk pencil and cut out both lace and black felt.
second:
Pin the ribbon inside both lace and black felt (black felt and lace have good sides facing each other). make sure the ribbon if, one sided like mine, is facing up.
Third:
Pin around the outside leaving a gap for stuffing.
Fourth:
sew around the outside - turn in the right way - stuff with your home made potpourri.
My daughter got hold of some scraps and decided to design her dolls some dresses so I quickly hand sewed them together....
Looks like I will have a little fashion designer on my hands!
I'm so proud of her.
The Fiskars tools I used in the above projects:
Thanks for dropping by!

Hi all
I had some felt lying around so decided to get onto creating with it....
This Heart Felt Box is made very quickly and for my daughters small hair accessories. But you can put anything in it....
You will need:
Fiskars supersized hearts templates
Fiskars Pinking shears
Fiskars Titanium rotary cutter
Fiskars Square quilt ruler
Fiskars Quilt cutting mat
Also used:
sewing machine, thread, taylors chalk pencil, black and red felt squares
1. get out your felt squares...
3. mark and cut out a large heart
4. sew both ends of the red 3" strips but make sure one is on the inside and one on the outside to make a heart - as pictured.
5. Trim with pinking shears to make it look tidy.
6. Pin then sew the red heart sides to the black heart bottom
7. trim edges with your pinking shears and you are finished!
Now fill it with the things you love...
Hope you have enjoyed this tutorial....
Thanks for dropping by!

I must admit I love seeing Emma's sewing projects over at
At the beginning of 2012, I made a new year’s resolution to sew myself one item of clothing every month, and having successfully completed 12 handmade items, I want to continue to build on my sewing skills this year. Though each of last year’s projects were different, I gained many transferable skills that have made me a better seamstress, and with each pattern I completed, I gained confidence in my ability and in my machine! I enjoyed picking fabrics, selecting styles and discovering some great sewing tricks and tips that were previously unknown to me. As a self-taught seamstress, these are the things I have had to acquire progressively over the last year and I’m determined not to let the hard work go to waste.
Now that I currently have plenty of handmade items proudly hanging in my closet, I have decided to concentrate on sewing children’s clothing during 2013. Conveniently, I have 2 children age 8 and 6, but I shall also be trying out other patterns for friends’ children of different ages. So, my new year’s resolution for 2013 is to sew one item of children’s clothing each month.
I begin my series with an embellished hoodie for my friend’s daughter as my January project, size 12 months.
I chose the Urban Hoodie pattern by Heidi & Finn, which I have sewn several times before and love.
Sewing such small items of clothing is a GREAT way to use up some larger fabric scraps you have lying around. I’m using some sweatshirt knit I have left over from a hoodie I made for myself back in May last year.
The Urban Hoodie is lined, which makes it so warm and snuggly. I am using tee shirt knit as my lining. When cutting/sewing with knits, it is important to take note of the direction of the stretch of the fabric. The stretch must run ACROSS the body/sleeves, as marked on the pattern pieces.
Before sewing the hoodie together, I decided I wanted to liven up the gray sweatshirt fabric, and also to personalize the hoodie, so I printed out the baby’s initial using a font I downloaded for free. I experimented with the sizing to make sure it fit onto the back of the hoodie pattern piece, then traced the letter onto freezer paper.
Next, using my Fiskars® Swivel Detail Knife, I cut out the letter to make a stencil.
I then ironed the freezer paper to the back pattern piece and made certain it adhered correctly. The font I chose has small pieces inside the letter, so I stuck each small piece in the correct position before ironing.
Using a fabric paint and sponge brush, I then carefully painted over my design. It’s important to make sure the design is centrally positioned on the back pattern piece. The easiest way to do that is to fold the pattern piece in half and mark the center point with a pin and match that to the center point of the stencil.
Once the paint has thoroughly dried you can peel off the freezer paper and your design will reveal itself. Treat your fabric paints as instructed on the container.
Following the pattern directions, finish sewing up the hoodie as instructed.
The hoodie requires a few buttons at the neck opening. I’ve long since given up with matching buttons and always enjoy mixing and matching a few for an individual, unique look.
Can't wait to see what Emma does next.......make sure you drop by over at

Hi all
I have finished off the childs room make over...
the last thing I made for the room make over was a small string of christmas shapes....
Yes they are hanging near the door to the bedroom.
you may also recognise the fabrics used... yes they are fabric shapes...I stiffened the fabric with liquid fabric stiffener (available at zigzag.co.nz) then used both christmas 1 & 2 shape templates with the Ultra shape expess to cut them out.
I enhanced some shapes with Jacquard 3D lumiere paints and a star embellishment.
Strung them together with DMC embroiders thread (a failed experiment at making my own bakers twine, hence the red marks on the thread.)
Here is the finished look in my daughters room...
More Christmasy than before but there is room for more - but that may have to come next year. I still haven't got the kids christmas pressies yet.... and yes I'm freaking out!!!!
happy crafting!

Hi all
My thing every year the lounge and kitchen gets decorated wonderfully..... the hallway gets a little decorating but the rest of the house is just left.....
My aim this year is to start on decorating the kids rooms.... I have a boy and an girl both at school and under 8yrs old.
Today I am posting up a simple fabric flag banner.
with my pinking shears, ruler and rotarty cutter in tow I got to work on the banner...
cutting very many flags and doubling them up sewing them wrong sides togther in zig zag stitch to make the flags double sided.
I did sew some left overs together and cut out flag pieces too....
with the left over fabric from the valence used in the bedfooter project i made a belt/string thingy.
Pinning and sewing along a very long length carefully putting the flags either side of my belt/string thingy and zig zagging along the top of the flags.
Here is my banner or rather, christmas bunting finished but all curled up....
I will show you the finished room soon.

Hi all
My thing every year the lounge and kitchen gets decorated wonderfully..... the hallway gets a little decorating but the rest of the house is just left.....
My aim this year is to start on decorating the kids rooms.... I have a boy and an girl both at school and under 8yrs old.
Today I am posting up the bed footer quilt.... its more of a decorative thing than anything practical.
Its for the end of the bed.
Here are progress photos...
i first sewed up my blocks
Got several off cuts from the $1 bin at fabric vision!
I layed out my blocks and then put green fabric between them.... (the green fabric was a valance from a second hand shop only cost me $2!) I also completed the sashing by putting a green frame around it all...
I cut an old single dacron duvet inner in half for the batting. We had updated the kids duvets to new ones. I'm recycling the old ones this way ;)
I sandwiched the top, batting and back all together and pinned it all at 3-4inch intervils then started quilting it all....
I did have quite a bunch of quilt in my sewing machine... but it handled it.
I started middle to end then witched it over and went from middle to end...
then repeated it lengthways as well...
Yea I know I should have done fancy freeform quilting on top with lovely holly leaves etc.... but there is so much going on at the moment here that I only had a short time so stuck to squares..... ;)
next I machine sewed on the binding with the same green fabric (the single bed valance) and hand sewed on the binding on the back.... all....the....way....round.... took AGES!!!! I really don't like hand sewing but its tidier than machine sewing.... no way around it really.
So there it is... on the end of the bed!
Next project is coming to and end now too will show you soon.....
But will I manage to deck out the kids rooms with Christmas stuff?
Will I have the time?
Fiskars tools used on this project post...
Happy crafting!
